Prospect Park Cricket Club was formed at The Royal Oak, Tooley St. London on the 17th of November 1967. According to popular myth, the club name was taken from the venue of Popeye's courtship of Olive Oyl. However, the truth is not nearly so glamorous, Prospect Park being in fact, the name of a small strectch of parkland in Reading. Only one member from that meeting remains with the club, Chairman and club statistician Alan Whaley. Originally, club colours were Blue and Yellow, but these have gradually been overtaken by Maroon and Gold (although this is where any similarity between PPCC and Calypso Cricket starts and ends!!!). PPCC have been somewhat of a nomadic team over the years, playing in the wide sweep between Dulwich and Dartford (and beyond) for the past 30 odd years, and are now looking to settle in Eltham, South East London at Foostcray Rugby Union Club
PPCC celebrated their 1000th competitive match on Sunday 17th September 2000, with a thrilling last ball victory over Carlton Sports.
