JESUS MARY AND OLD JOSEPHIANS

Vs Old Josephians Saturday 12th August

Park arrived at a glorious Southbank Poly ground in Dulwich, with spirits still high even after last Sunday's blip. Skip Fowdy won the toss and elected to field on a sultry hot day. Park welcomed back Paul Moss, who opened the bowling with Dave Partridge, both bowled as tight as normal but couldn't get the breakthrough, especially Dave who had catches dropped, although 1 was very hard, and Skip Fowdy should have held onto his. The Skipper made a double change in the rising temperature and brought on a unlikely partnership of Craig Partridge and Terry Shannon, Terry made a breakthrough very early getting one of the openers out with Craig at the other end bowling with good pace taking a wicket finishing with figures of 1/28. Terry continued at the other end and his patience came off and took arguably there best batsman finishing off with fine figures of 2/36. Sam Moss (making a welcomed return from obscurity) and Bill Partridge came on and again kept the runs down to a minimum, Sam getting a couple of wickets (2/33) and Bill taking 1 wicket for 29 runs. Park battled on gamely but couldn't prevent OJCC from scoring 177. Sean Pritchard deserved a mention, as it was his first time behind the stumps for PPCC and done a extremely good job.

Park needing 178 to win, opened with the experience of Dave Fletch and Dave Brupbacher, Bru got off to a very bad start hitting a drive in the second over straight to cover and getting out for a duck. Paul Thompson came in next batting unusually at 3, but looked as comfortable as ever hitting some fine shots putting a fifty partnership with Fletch before falling for a good 23. Bill came in at a high No 4 but didn't trouble the scorers. Sean came in and fell very quickly for 2 and The Park were in trouble at 60/4 when Craig came in. Park still needing only 6 an over tried to push it along with Fletch hitting some fantastic drives and going on to get a well deserved fifty. Unfortunately Fletch fell soon after for 50. Skip Fowdy came in next with Park now needing 6.50 an over with 5 wickets down. Craig eventually got caught behind for a good 21 with his brother Dave coming in at No-8. Dave hit a couple of nice fours before skying one to cover for 9 runs. Now Park were in a little trouble at 116/7 with 9 overs to go. Paul Moss came in next scoring only 1 before being bowled the rest of the tail didn't wag as Sam and Terry were both out for ducks to leave the skipper 6 n/o at the other end and Park going from 100/4 to 117 all-out.

So PPCC lost by 60 runs to a solid Old Josephians side, it was the first game Park had lost in 6 matches.

Man Of The Match
